DR. JANE GOODALL SPEAKS AT INAUGURAL HUFFINGTON ECUMENICAL INSTITUTE EVENT
On September 27, Dr. Jane Goodall engaged in a conversation with Rev. Dr. John Chryssavgis, Executive Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute, sharing her thoughts on the power of
ecumenical encounter and dialogue in shaping a better future for our planet. The talk, which inaugurated the “Ecumenical Conversations Series” of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute, was attended by members of the administration and faculty, as well as students and families of the Hellenic College Holy Cross community and beyond.
Fr. John asked Dr. Goodall about the ways in which religion shapes her worldview and how religion itself should be shaped by creation care, as well as how protecting our planet transcends religion. In response to a question about what inspires her work and reinforces her hope, Jane Goodall replied: “My reasons for hope are: first of all the children, who have the willpower; second, our intellect that can come up with solutions; and third, the resilience of nature.”
The visit was a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about the extraordinary experiences and insights of Dr. Goodall on a mission to empower and educate youth in making the world a better place through her internationally acclaimed Roots & Shoots program.
